To Border or Not?

Happy Hump Day! I’ve been working all week trying to assemble my Christmas Sampler Quilt. It was done this weekend but was so wonky that I had to take off the whole last row and rework it until it straightened out. There are a few wonky blocks still, but I can live with them!

Last night I started to add the borders. My first idea was to do a red and white checkerboard border. But now I think that would be too busy. So I decided to do plain red. I sewed the two long sides on and now I don’t know if I love it.

What do you think? Border or no border?

There's a new podcaster in town! Check out The Quilting Pot. AJ is a new podcaster and I’m really digging her voice. Check her out, give her a listen, and then give her some comment love! You can do a search on iTunes, or check out her blog.

  1. Oh....I am frothing over this quilt....love it...and I say border...just to outline your quilt.

  2. I like the red border. It seems to tie everything together.

  3. The red border looks fine and frames the center nicely. It would also look great without a border and use the red for binding. If it were my quilt, I probably wouldn't border it. But that is just personal preference.

  4. I like how the red border brings out/emphasizes the red fabrics in quilt... I'm not a huge "you must have borders" person but I do like the red borders on this one. Again, binding in red might do the trick as well.

    (Aren't I a lot of help?)

  6. I love this quilt! This would be more work, but I think a red border, then a narrow strip of red checkerboard border, then a narrow red border.. but that would totally be way more work. I like the red border like it is, too! :o)

  7. Sometimes borders are anecessary thing. But the way you have pieced it together is so smart, it actually doesn't need one! Well done! It is not only the month for Halloween, but breast cancer awareness month!!! Treat yourself or a loved one because you care! I am just stopping by with a reminder to do your self breast exam.

  8. Wow, what a fab quilt - this must have taken you hours, it's so intricate! I'm voiting for two borders, a thin green one, then the red. I know you didn't ask that, but I thought I'd give you my humble opinion anyway!

  9. Oooo... I think I like Wendy's idea!! A thin green border and then the red would be lovely! I do like the red one all on it's own too. It is a fabulous quilt! Will be great to have for the Holidays!

  10. It's a very lively quilt, and I think your plain red border is a perfect frame for your lovely work. You should just have enough time to get it ready for the holidays! Beautiful work, Jen.

  12. The red almost looks too wide. It may be the way the photo was taken. I think maybe a more narrow border or just the red binding.
